The personality test is quite extensive and covers a lot of bases. Questions include the type of characteristics you have and the characteristics you want in a match. As a dating website that serves academics and intellectuals, none of the personality test questions seem to to reflect this. The only fields related to the academe seem to be the Professions and Education only. Once you upload your display photo (a maximum of 5 photos), you can tick a box to let other users see your photo. If you don't, your photo will appear blurred to your matches and will only be shown to those you give access to. Your account details aren't required upon signing up; you can edit them later once your account has been created.

To spice up your game, Academic Singles gives you a chance to select a pre-written message which will be sent to selected members (who we assume are your matches). There are 12 questions you can choose from. Some of the most interesting ones are:

• Hi! If we met at the bar, what would happen?
• Hi, I am curious! What is your answer to this: "I get the most pleasure out of..."
• Hello! If you could choose to live anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
• Hi! What makes you laugh? Surprise me!
• Hi, would you like to tell me a secret that you never told anyone before?

Once you choose your question, this message will appear in the inboxes of the people chosen by Academic Singles. They can choose to answer this question or not.

You can contact your matches by going to their profiles and clicking the chat icon. As mentioned in the Registration process above, you can choose a pre-written question which will be sent en masse to your matches. You can then select from the responses and start communicating with someone you like. Even though you're already talking to someone regularly, you can still choose to remain anonymous. You get the final say on when your matches and get to see your photo.

After setting your search criteria (which can be changed and saved anytime), you have to wait 24 hours before your new matches get delivered to you. Only a few users will be added to your existing list of matches since their matchmaking process relies on how many people registered recently. Free male members can send one free message to each match. When you receive something, the entire message will be blurred. Only premium members (and women) can read their messages and send unlimited messages.

Profiles can be extremely detailed. Besides the basics, there are sections where you can state the food you like, holidays you enjoy, sports you enjoy, films & TV shows, leisure activities, and more. Within them you can choose between various options and rate them on a 6-star scale. For example, among the food you like you can include Japanese food and give it 4 stars.

The personality test isn't only used to find your match. Your answers are also analysed to give you your personality profile. Your personality profile is an evaluation of your characteristics. It shows where you stand on a scale that links various personality characteristics such as:

• Rationality versus Emotionality
• Tradition versus Innovation
• Distance versus Attachment
• Observation versus Feeling

You rely on immediately tangible things that have already proven their worth. You avoid conjectural procedures and prefer to rely on your common-sense. People with a strong inclination towards cognitive perception take in the facts and details of the surrounding world, the way reality presents them. A feeling person prefers to deal with correlations, ideas, and associations, which are intuitive rather than obvious.

When you visit your match's account, you will see their personality profile contrasted against yours. This gives you your compatibility number. There's no clear scale that mentions what could be the lowest or highest number possible, but it seems like the average is somewhere above 100.
